Last weekend in his Friday press conference Sir Alex claimed ‘silly season’ was upon us and indeed it is in full swing.

The papers have been linking us with every name under the sun and today brings Luis Fabiano (well I most wasn’t talking about Fabianski and I don’t think Wenger would sell us Fabregas either)

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Brazilian striker revealed Old Trafford would be his preferred destination. Fabiano has assured us he will not fail to get goals due to the service he would receive and that he would be coming to win trophies:

“If you are asking me what team I most admire it is Manchester United. If you play under Sir Alex Ferguson then you are probably going to win a title or another major trophy.”

At 29 Fabiano is no spring chicken but has a decent goal scoring record in Spain scoring 90 goals in 187 games for Sevilla. The rumours of Berbatov’s departure don’t seem to be stopping and at £15m, we may be tempted to bring him in as a replacement.

He has been linked with us before as well as Chelsea but this come and get me plea is a clear indication of where he would like to go although he had expressed a wish to move to AC Milan last summer only for the deal to fall through as the Italian club would not match Sevilla’s asking price.

Unlike Berbatov, he would add pace to our attack and has a keen eye for goal but I’m not fully sold on him, he could go either way as he showed in his brief spell at Porto where he only scored 3 times in 22 appearances. He is likely to appear for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup so his price could go up but in the same breath his contract is set to expire next year so Sevilla could be forced to sell as he clearly wants to leave and they don’t want him to leave on a free.

As I said I am not 100% sure on Fabiano and he wasn’t the first name that springs to mind when we talk of bringing in a new striker.

What are your thoughts?
