With United having so many talented youngsters at their disposal, I thought it would only be fair to give the starlets currently out on loan a mention. Whilst injury has cut short two players time away from Old Trafford, playing first team football will have undoubtedly broadened all of their horizons as well as provided the valuable experience they will need if they are to break through to United’s first team.

Danny Welbeck

Danny is a promising forward on loan at local Preston North End managed by Fergie junior – Darren Ferguson. The lanky 19 year old burst onto the season with a stunning strike at Old Trafford on his Premier League debut, curling a 30yard right footed shot into the top corner. Unfortunately after a promising loan spell at Preston scoring on his home league debut for the Whites, Welbeck picked up a knee injury in March and so has returned to United for an operation. The Englishman played only 8 games for Preston scoring 2 goals. He is now out for the rest of the season.

Matt James

James is another player on loan at Darren Ferguson’s Preston side. He’s an 18 year old centre midfielder who can also fill in in the back line when required. The Rochdale born youngster is a regular at Deepdale, making 17 appearances so far for the club. He has managed to also score 2 goals with his first goal coming via a deflected shot on his debut. Darren Ferguson seems to have first choice on all United’s most promising youngsters and he is attempting to take advantage of this by taking James on loan again next season. I think we should keep our eye on this lad.

Zoran Tosic

Tosic is currently on loan at German side FC Koln. Tosic is a 22 year old left winger with tricky feet and a good burst of pace and at times, he sometimes finds himself in a more forward position. Similar qualities to a certain young Ryan Giggs, but has a long, long way to aspire to the level of the veteran Welshman. The 5’8inch winger has made a good impression in the German league scoring some spectacular goals. He’s scored 4 goals in 11 matches. The winger is due back in Manchester at the end of the season, however he has reportedly stated that he is enjoying life in Germany and would like to stay. Whatever the case, some United fans were writing the young Serbian off, but he is proving his point at FC Koln and if he does decide to stay at United he could be an adequate replacement for Giggs.

Tom Heaton

Tom is a goalkeeper currently on loan at relegation threatened, league one side, Wycombe Wanderers. The 24 year old has vital experience in first team football spending brief spells at Swindon Town, Royal Antwerp, Cardiff City, QPR and Rochdale. He is Wycombe’s current number one in the sticks and has made 13 appearances. With doubts over Ben Foster and with Tom having so much experience for a relatively young goalkeeper, Heaton might make his way into United’s first team picture.

Daniel Drinkwater

Danny is a tough tackling midfielder, who also has some silky skills and can sure pick a pass. The 20 year old is having a good time on loan at League one flyers Huddersfield Town. He has become an instant success in Yorkshire playing the majority of Town’s games in the centre of the park. Danny has made 31 appearances scoring twice. The youngster also has experience at England U21 level, which can only aid his level of improvement.

Tom Cleverley

Probably one of United’s most talked about youngsters who is sure to have a successful future ahead of him, Cleverley is a natural midfielder who often bombs forward to get himself on the score sheet. However, Tom can and has also filled in the defence. The 20 year old is currently on loan at Championship side Watford where he is playing a key role in helping them survive the dreaded drop. He’s made 35 appearances scoring an impressive 11 goals from midfield. Tom is also a free-kick specialist and is Watford’s 2nd leading goalscorer – quite impressive for a midfielder. This lad reminds me of a certain young Frank Lampard. He has a great eye for ball and regularly gets forward scoring priceless goals. Unfortunately Tom suffered a knee ligament injury in April and is now ruled out for the rest of the season, but has been rewarded for his efforts by receiving Watford’s player of the season award. Definitely look out for this boy breaking in to the United first team in the next year or two!

  1. Maurice says:

Please, dear god, let Tosic and Cleverly stay at United! Anyone who has seen these players in action, knows they are going to be stars. Let’s hope SAF sees that too. He often doesn’t though (Tevez, Pique a.o). Good work on the update btw

  2. The landscape for this kind of trading has changed tremendously. Thirty years ago there was only 200 million professionally managed trading these futures contracts, today there is roughly 200 billion. When the funds ( managed futures ) pull the plug these days there is an avalanche of money hitting the exit door. As a result, volatility has increased. In addition, Commodity Futures Trading Commission growth has not kept up with the growth of the industry and they are consequently understaffed and unequipped to deal with today’s marketplace. Play at your own risk.
