Fabio Capello has released his 30 man provisional squad for next month’s World Cup and as good a manager as he is one thing that is clear is that he is not a man of his word.

Having said that he will pick players off their performances rather than off merit I can’t see how Gary Neville didn’t make it? Owen Hargreaves missing out wasn’t a major surprise given the fact he has only played about 30 seconds this season but Gary Neville has been quite impressive.

Yes the squad is provisional but I’m sure England’s World Cup odds were drastically lengthened when Jamie Carragher was included in the squad.

Yes he is going as cover at right back but this is a man who despite professing his love for Liverpool and how much Liverpool ranks in his heart above England, threw a strop when asked to play their for his club. The talk will be that the fact he can play centre back as well makes him valuable but so can Gary Neville.

If Carragher is being taken as cover for the injury prone Glen Johnson then Gary Neville, a natural right back, would surely be a better shout. Have we forgotten Carragher’s last stint in the position?

In 2006 when Carragher went to Germany as Neville’s understudy he was introduced against Trinidad and Tobago in England’s second game. He put in a performance that lead Sven Goran Eriksson to try both David Beckham and Owen Hargreaves there before Gary Neville returned from injury!

At 35 it may have seemed a long shot to have the veteran in the squad but having made 85 appearances including playing at World Cup 98 and 06 his experience would be invaluable. I’m not here to scream conspiracy but I think Gary Neville showed he was deserving of a place in at least the 30 man squad.

With that being said I’m offering odds of 4/1 that Carragher scores at least 1 own goal this summer!

you should be talking about the omission of Ashley Young who was dropped for j cole…………there is no explanation for that in this world

Its a shame for Nevile but at 35 he won’t be hurting too much, I wouldn’t think. He has just got another years contract and it might be best for him to go off on holiday and get ready for next season. All our veterens in Nevile, Scholes, Giggs and VDS have the summer off and to honest they need it. They have all be important this season, maybe too important, and so will need the rest.

Thats the positive Tom and we’ve seen how a lack of an international career has prolonged Giggs and Scholes’ club career but still whether he will be annoyed about it or not, there is no way in hell Capt. Own Goal is a better RB than Neville!

I think this is also Capello’s biggest mistake, ask someone that supports anyone else they will say…Gary Neville is slow blah blah blah.

Watch the games he’s played this season, no one has got the better of him even if they are faster. Johnson can be as fast as he wants, Gary Neville will be in the right place in the first place so he won’t need to run.

with terry now out with a broken metatarsal, bet Capello is regretting this decision.
