1966, as they say, was a good year for not only English football but football in general.

Geoff Hurst helped England to the World Cup at Wembley on the 30th July but a couple months earlier something a little more significant happened, Eric Cantona was born.

One of the most flamboyant, enigmatic players to grace the game made his first appearance for United in December 1992 having signed for a bargain £1m from rivals Leeds and the rest as they say is history.

A talisman during the 90s and my shout for one of our greatest players ever, the mercurial French man provided the spark that ignited the club and helped us become the dominant force in English and world football that we are today.

Some will say he retired too early but that just added to the mystique that surrounds Eric (along with his cryptic speeches!) and in the time he was with us he delighted and astounded as well as scoring my favourite goal of all time with a sexy (yes I said sexy) chip against Sunderland.

So join me as we drink a drink to Eric the King and toast this his 44th year and wish him many more!
