South Korea’s captain Park Ji Sung got his World Cup campaign off to a flier netting South Korea’s second against Greece.

In a true captain’s performance Park capitalised on some lax passing in the Greek back line to pick the pocket of Vyntra. As he raced forward he held off the challenge of the recovering defender as well as an attemptĀ from Papadopoulos to slot past Tzorvas.

In England’s opener against the USA, Wayne Rooney took a while to get going but showed flashes of brilliance overall.

He played a part in England’s opener on the 4th minute but then drifted in and out of the game. He saw a long range effort go wide in the first half but he continued working hard after the break and on the 74th minute he came to life with a long rang shot from nowhere which flew just past Tim Howard’s post.

Immediately after he played Wright-Phillips in but the City winger could only hit his shot at Howard and from the resulting corner Rooney saw an effort saved as well.

Looking at Rooney I think he may still be suffering from the effects of the ankle injury and subsequently being rushed back as he yet to look as good as he did for United at various points during the season. He will hope to do better this Friday when England take on Algeria.
