Well you snooze you lose! It’s being reported that Barcelona have jumped to the front of the queue to sign Mesut Ozil. A number of different fees have been mentioned but I have heard £8m as well as £12-15m. Definite value for a player who has already showed his promise.

Having failed to sign Cesc, it was pretty well known that he could be a potential target and as I write this Sky Sports News have it as a ‘Just In’ piece that they have agreed a fee with Werder Bremen.

Ryan Giggs is buoyed by United’s victory over Chelsea on Sunday and feels we made them look ordinary. He feels that by winning the match that finished 3-1 United have the psychological edge but Chelsea are still the team to beat.

I agree but the defeat has given Chelsea something to think about and seeing Drogba say that they as a team need to improve is a good sign, as we have made them realise early we may be the stronger team.

In what will be a massive turn around Sir Alex is urging Fabio Capello to call Michael Carrick up to the England squad for tomorrow’s game against Hungary. Fergie is normally known for trying to keep his players away from international duty but if it serves a purpose and it means Carrick gets some more playing time before the season starts why not use it to your advantage?

Edwin van der Sarr has revealed that Sir Alex is still able to motivate the team and that a passionate speech was behind the win at Wembley. He also revealed his motivation behind his continued work at the club:

“Before we left for the Chelsea game, the manager gave a little team talk,” said van der Sar. “He said ‘I’m glad to be able to still be doing this, to work with young guys and that’s what keeps me motivated’.
