According to The Sun, Owen Hargreaves will give up on playing if he fails with this latest comeback.

Hargreaves has played 45 minutes of reserve football since walking out of the game against Chelsea in September 2008 and although still relatively young at 29, he feels that this will be his last attempt, well at least according to an anonymous source close to the player who stated:

“Owen has done everything to come back but the pain and effort has been huge.

“He has decided to give it one last big push but if this doesn’t work that will probably be it.

“The pain in his knees has not just affected his football, but normal life.”

Hargreaves has been pencilled in for a return numerous times and it was thought he would be ready for this season after apparently finding fitness at the tail end of last season but the midfielder broke down over the summer and returned to Colorado to work with Dr. Steadman again.

Last we heard in the protracted saga is that he is looking good in training and that he is being pencilled in for a return against Wolves on October 26th so lets hope that if he does make the date it is the start of the second chapter in Hargreaves United career and this is a long and prosperous one, we could definitely do with him.

Lets toast to a healthy return for Hargo!

As much as words like “last chance” cause a bit of anxiety for United fans, this is was already evident. If this comeback doesn’t work after a 2.5 year layoff, it is safe to assume it would be the last.
Of course everyone is wishing it will work and what an amazing chapter in United history if it does.
