Last week I compared the stories about Wayne Rooney’s supposed rift with Sir Alex as a storm in a tea cup.

On Friday Sir Alex referred to the incident as water off a duck’s back. Case closed.

Or not.

On Saturday Rooney was named on the bench for the game with West Brom and tonight the rumour has exploded as various news sources are claiming that Wayne’s rift with Sir Alex is worse than previously expected and he is refusing to sign a new contract and wants out of Old Trafford.

Some are stating this is just a stunt to get a better contract from the club, preffering a deal worth £2ook compared to the £160k being offered.

Although there are few, if any, quotes to support these claims the way in which the rumours have gathered pace are alarming to say the least.

Rooney, who recently marked his 6th year at the club, has been in poor form for a while now and whilst many myself included put it down to injury but Wayne refuted these claims stating he has been fit and thus in the same breath denying Sir Alex’s claims that he has been injured. Cue papers drawing comparisons with Beckham, Van Nistelrooy and Stam and their acrimonious departures from the club.

One of the funnier things I have heard in comparison to this story is that it will be City that take him off our hands, citing Rooney leaving Everton as evidence he will cross the city. I’d just like to say Rooney leaving Everton for us is nothing like him leaving us for City.

Personally I don’t think the story is as bad as it is being stated, the bigger the scandal the more papers you sell/reads you get. The lack of concrete quotes also make the whole thing questionable but I would be a liar if I said I’m not slightly worried. From a personal stance as well as looking at the team, I like Rooney and what he brings to our team and it’s been said before by me as well as people at the club, no man is bigger than Manchester United but the timing with which this has happened (if true) is awful in both the small and large scale.

If Rooney does in fact want to go then so be it, I won’t be happy with the circumstances but I will remember what he did in a United shirt. Many have quickly started abusing him without knowing the details but I will reserve comment until I do and even then looking at his contribution I doubt I will be part of the ‘F*ck Wayne Rooney Brigade’.

People and especially Journalists jump to conclusions too quickly. He is a United player like any other sqaud memeber. If you are not performing you get dropped. He has not been performing, mainly in my opinion down to his off the field problems (mental). When the girl you have been with for 15 years is threatening to leave you i’ts bound to play on your mind – He is only human after all. People are saying he has been dropped for contradicting Ferguson, which he did. This probably does have a small percentage to play in the fact he was dropped at the weekend, but if you have Hernandez who is on form you a play an on form Hernandez who you will get more out of than a Rooney whose first touch is currently equal to an elephant’s.
It was only a few months ago Wayne Rooney stated he will stay at the club for the rest of his carear. For the press to come out and say Rooney is refusing to sign a new contract and is leaving in January is ridiculous! Things don’t change so quickly! He is so shy off the field, I don’t honestly see him having the balls to get on the wrong side of Fergie. All Fergie is doing is giving him a kick up the ass and telling him you are no different to anyone else. He has been in the news for the prostitute scandal and the press are putting 2 and 2 together to make 5.

We will see what Fergie has to say in the interview coming up at 2pm!

He won’t be talking on the matter as that presser is to announce a £1m donation to Unicef

I’m not spelling doom and gloom, but I think there is more than slight worry here. First off, that Rooney has taken a lot longer to regain form than hoped and that he’s (allegely) stalling contract talks.
Add to the fact that he’s probably tired of British press and no doubt in a row with SAF doesn’t add up very well.
I’m hoping some good performances will take care of this, but I think that is all that can remedy the situation and it has to happen sooner than later.

There really does appear to be some credence in these stories now. I hasten to add not from those red-top liars who are telling their readers which clubs are buying him, for how much money and who United are getting as a swap deal. But there seems to be a media consensus that, at the very least, contract negotiations have broken down with a refusal to come back to the table and a desire to leave has been expressed.

It would be a terrible shame if Wayne did leave. I would like to think that he had the strength of character to overcome his personal sins, lack of form on the pitch and any reported ‘rift’ with the manager and get back to the highest standards he was showing last year.

I’d also like to think that the media have got it wrong on an epic scale or that the situation is not as irreconcilable as they’re leading us to believe.
