As 2010 draws to an end amidst a snowy apocalypse, Man Utd fans will probably have mixed feelings about how the team have done over the last 12 months.
While teams like Man City and Tottenham progressed massively (and will continue to do so) and Chelsea achieved an impressive Double, there was a feeling that Utd might have stagnated, or even worse, gone backwards.
But after a disappointing 2009-10 season where despite running Chelsea very close, we still dropped silly points which could have easily handed us the title, it seems like we could regain our position at the top of English football soon.
When we embarked on a new season in August, there was a wave of pessimism as United only strengthened with youth in the form of Chicharito and Smalling. There were widespread calls for a creative midfielder as we got linked to billions of pounds worth of players but none came in. But despite all the doom and gloom, the endless draws and Rooney trying his best to destroy his previously squeaky clean reputation by demanding a transfer (or more money if you want), United scored their own Christmas No.1 by topping the league at Christmas.
Even if we have not looked our roaring best so far this season, United fans will think that, if the team stay clear of injuries, Rooney regains some semblance of scoring form and Anderson and Nani, our best player of 2010 by far, continue their development apace, we stand an outstanding chance to win a record 19th domestic title come May (watch out for the sound of a club being finally knocked off their perch).
This could even perhaps offset a great send-off for the remaining Fergie Fledglings as they are retired by the old master who will set out to fine-tune another all-conquering team which is already taking shape.
