For a while there I thought we were looking at Upton Park all over again.

A weakened team faced Southampton and failed to impress against the league one outfit but a poor first half showing was masked by a late comeback with both Owen and Hernandez getting amongst the goals.

I’ll call a spade a spade and say there were some very below par performances there today, with Anderson and Gibbo naming but two of them, some of the players are already under suspicion by fans over their quality and today will have done little to change opinions but the ever reliable Giggs stepped into the mix at half time and changed things around again, pulled the strings and we came away with the win.

Southampton were worth their lead and Chaplow’s goal was unstoppable. Oxlade-Chamberlain looked good in the first half passing the ball about moving as well as showing good feet but faded in the second half as United grew stronger.
