Despite the best attempts of the Ghanaian contingent at The Stadium of Light it appears when you get the call you have to answer.

Asamoah Gyan, John Mensah and Sulley Muntari have been trying desperately to get Danny Welbeck to declare for Ghana and whilst they may have done well in planting the idea, Fabio Capello has had the final say by calling Welbeck into the England team for tonight’s game against Ghana.

Welbeck had been in the u21 squad and scored last Thursday against Denmark but with Aaron Lennon dropping out due to a hamstring injury, Welbeck has benefitted.

This isn’t to say that if he plays he will therefore become inelegible for Ghana but it’s a step closer. Amidst all this, congratulations is definitely in order and like Chris Smalling is yet another United youngster to get his first England call up this term.

Some of the reaction to Welbeck call up has been hilarious! I saw a Ghanaian call him a ‘paigon’ and another declare him dead to his home nation! A tiny over reaction I would say.

It’s a friendly so he would still be able to choose Ghana even if he plays for England tonight.

      I actually mentioned that

He’s not a traitor and it’s understandable, but we desperately need strikers in this Ghanaian team, its the one position (bar a keeper) where we haven’t managed to build depth in. Him and Gyan have proved a great partnership at Sunderland and the same would happen in the GH Team.

Don’t wanna see him play tonight for England.
