The fact Phil Jones is capable of playing in various positions has done little to change his mind because he knows where he wants to make an impact for United.

Having been deployed in midfield for Blackburn and shown the ability to operate at right back for United on the US tour, it is felt that Jones could find his way into the team this season in a number of different position but Jones is only concerned with making an impact at center back as he told Inside United,

“I used to play in midfield but I definitely consider myself a centre-half and that’s where I play my best football.

“I like to see the game in front of me and read the play.

“At Blackburn, when the manager asked me to move into midfield, it was strange and I didn’t expect it.

“It took a few games to adapt to that role and the positions to take.

“If I was asked to do that here, I’d feel comfortable with it.”

Seen him play midfield and he would make a good holding midfielder, although centre back IS PJs best position.

Centre back is his long-term position, but I think this season he will be versatile. I’m sure he will get games at centre back, but he will also play at right back. In Europe I can see Jones playing the holding role in a 5 man midfield in some games.

He is a talented footballer and its good for his education to learn different roles. I’m sure Ferguson plans to use him strongly this season and he will get plenty of games.
