Many are touting this to be the toughest Premier League season ever.
With the continuing growth of Man City, Liverpool’s resurgence under Dalglish as well as bringing in fresh faces, Chelsea hiring Villas Boas to give direction to an already good team and a solid supporting cast in teams like Aston Villa, Everton, Bolton, Sunderland etc no team can expect to canter to the title.
But Roy Keane thinks otherwise.
Keane, who turns 40 today, believes it will be United that will emerge victorious in May if they are on their game and perform how they can,
“Sir Alex Ferguson said the other day the league’s getting tougher. But I don’t think so.
“If United are really at it, which they will be, they’ll win it comfortably. Even last year when United were slipping up, no team was strong enough to take advantage of it.”
Keane sees Man City as United’s main rivals for the title but had some sharp words for United’s other rivals,
“I don’t think the current City group see United as a machine that can’t be stopped.
“Beating United at Wembley was a milestone for them. They’ve been close to getting results over United in the last few years.
“When a team is spending that sort of money and bringing in the quality they have, then they are a threat.”
Speaking of Chelsea he said,
“It’s always the players down there, they all seem to self-destruct. They’re big pals one minute and the next you hear they’re all bickering with each other and players aren’t happy if someone else scores.”
Whilst Arsenal were dismissed for their lack of spending, (“they haven’t really bought anybody”), he sees Liverpool as a fair way away from securing a first Premier League title (“in no position to win the league, nowhere near”).
Good to see Keane still minces his words then eh!
