It wasn’t the massive thrashing some had wanted but it was 3 points.

At a ground where we hadn’t picked up 3 points since 2007, Manchester United got back on the wagon with a 1-0 win over Everton.

Javier Hernandez opened the scoring in the 19th minute in a jittery match and although the overall performance may not have been great, we have to look at the positives.

We defended well, got a clean sheet and got the 3 points.

One game at a time as they say.

Winning ugly, as it seems to be called, is so important to long term success, ie winning the league.
    I for 1 am happy.

Winning games is obviously a good thing. I’m just concerned at how easily and the frequency with which teams seem to break through our midfield and attack our goal, we don’t seem as dominant in that area as we could be. I’m quite happy to take flak for this but I still think we are short one midfield player of real quality.

It was a well fought win today, Vidic and Jones were particularly impressive. However, a fine forward he may well become, I wasn’t so sure about playing Welbeck on the left wing. In fact, I’m struggling to recall a single cross of note and meant that Hernandez was further isolated upfront. At least until Evra managed to put one telling cross through….

I think it was a big big win for Man Utd. Arsenal deserve the headlines this week, but a 0-1 win away to Everton will suit Man Utd. Last week was horrible but we have to rebuild the confidence slowly. I’ve been saying that we have had the toughest start to the season in terms of fixtures, along with Arsenal probably.

Away to Everton is one of our toughest fixtures, as is away to Liverpool and Stoke. I believe Man Utd now have a run of fixtures leading to the New Year that can help us build momentum. A strong winning run is what is required and we can do it. We have played 10 games now, and apart from the terrible day at the office against Man City, we have done well I believe.

We have had big wins against Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea. Important away wins against Everton, Bolton and West Brom. A good away point against Stoke and Liverpool. We haven’t been bad this season, but we need to sort the midfield out quick.

Well done to be the boys for a hard fought victory. After being smacked for 6 last week, I wouldn’t have picked Everton away to be the next fixture. It had all the potential to extend our misery, but we fought well and grinned out the win. We haven’t won away to Everton for 2-3 years so it was a good 3 points. Away from home we have improved from last season.

I have to agree with Andrew’s comment above, Man Utd have had a tough start to the season. That doesn’t excuse what happened last week though. The cracks that we can see in the team all came out last week. The midfield is not strong enough, but amazingly its defensively rather then offensively weak. We can’t win tackles and break up the oppositions attacks. We allow too many shots at our goal.

I have to say that Ferguson deserves credit for putting Evans back into the team. He has got a lot of stick for last week and his red card. At the age of 23 it could have broken his confidence and ended his Man Utd career long-term. Ferguson though see’s real potential in the lad and threw him back into the side in a tough away game in which we needed to win. It will be a big confidence boost to Evans to get the nod alongside Vidic.

We don’t won’t last week to destroy careers, it needs to make out younger players stronger. It’s great to see Jones, Welbeck, De Gea, Evans, Hernandez and Cleverley out on the field and playing yesterday. We could have reverted to all the older players, but we showed trust and faith in the younger lads to learn and to bounce back. Long-term they will benefit from last week, as hard as it sounds and feels right now.

We do however need to find a midfielder, even though it might not happen until the summer. A defensive midfielder in my opinion is definitely required and would make a difference to the team. We have Cleverley who is an excellent young player and he can grow into a top offensive midfielder. Other players like Pogba and Morrison are also more attack minded midfielder’s.

We where linked with Lucas Biglia but he is now injured, but a possible option for the summer. If we want someone for January then Yann M’Vila is probably the best option, as he is the up and coming young defensive midfielder.

Why isnt petrucci getting any carling cup games…he is the captain of the reserves sometimes and a great midfielder as well.
