Man United’s fight to retain the title this season has been a hard one.

A number of things have conspired to prevent Sir Alex Ferguson from lifting a 13th Premier League title, yet United remain in the title race just 2 points off Man City.

Injuries, retirements and general sloppiness amongst other things have plagued or title charge as we have to contend with our oil rich neighbours Man City.

Following the 6-1 drubbing back in October the title was handed to them by all and sundry thus there is a yearning from the players to secure the title this year, more so than years gone by.

United are often lauded for looking to what they will win rather than what they have won, and when your trophy cabinet is bare but you have players like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes around you it is understandable that the desire to win silverware is strong, case in point Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley.

Both youngsters are part of a team that is making the transition from old to young and having just joined the party, both are desperate to taste the success that some of their team mates have already enjoyed.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Welbeck said:

“I’m so hungry.

“I was just talking about it before [recently] in the canteen with Tom Cleverley. Clevz was biting his fork as well as his food and growling [laughs]!

“We both want it so much. I don’t think anybody understands how hungry we are for this title. We want to fulfil our dreams, win the title and keep winning and keep winning. There’s nothing going to stop us.”
