Kiko Macheda has had a hard time of late.

2 failed loans in 2 seasons has seen the promising striker’s progress halt, and to top it off he was recently fined by the FA for sending a homophobic tweet.

With the striking situation at Old Trafford looking as fierce as ever, things aren’t looking great. But he has been thrown a lifeline as Sir Alex Ferguson has stood firmly behind the young Italian, stating that he has been ‘unlucky’.

Speaking to MUTV, Sir Alex said:

“He is so unlucky.

“I have complete belief in the boy. He could be an outstanding player. But he needs football.

“We put him on loan to Sampdoria last January. He was there for two weeks, they sacked the coach and he doesn’t get a game.

“We put him on loan to QPR. Two weeks later they sack the coach and he doesn’t get a game.

“That has been really unfortunate.

“He has been bothered with his ankle a little bit over the last few weeks, so we have done the right thing to get an operation and hopefully he will be ready for next season.”
