With 28 goals this season already, Wayne Rooney is on the verge of his breaking the 34 goals in 2009/2010 that represented his best goals return in a season.
Having scored 7 goals in the last month, Rooney is in fine form and if he is able to break his record it is likely that United will pick up their 20th title.
A 5th Premier League title in 8 years would be a remarkable return for the striker but planning for a long future at the club, Rooney has his eyes on a long standing club record.
Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals has yet to be broken but Rooney is hoping to be the person to do so as he told Inside United:
“Of course.
“It would be an unbelievable feeling if I could get his record.
“I’m still a long way away but hopefully, one day, I will be able to do it.
“They (Viollet and Best) are obviously club legends and to be in touching distance of their goal tally is something I’m really proud of and hopefully I will overtake them soon.”
Rooney is currently 4 goals from overtaking Denis Viollet and George Best and will hope to overtake both this term, starting with a goal or two against QPR this weekend.
