It didn’t take him long, but Shinji Kagawa has opened his Manchester United account scoring the winner against Shanghai Shenhua.

United had been guilty of wasting a number of chances with both Kiko Macheda and Nick Powell spurning chances, but after Bebe powered down the flank and cut back, Kagawa could do nothing but give United the lead in the 68th minute.

Coming on at half time, Bebe inject an urgency into United play and was unlucky to see his powerful shot turned away by the Shenhua goalkeeper.

Shanghai rarely threatened United’s goal but late in the first half they broke and it took a superb save from Anders Lindegaard to keep the scores level.

In winning the game United picked up their first piece of silverware for the season, the Chevrolet Cup!
