Danny Welbeck has eased fears over his future by signing a new 4 year deal.

A new deal for the striker has long been spoken of but until now there has been no announcement that he has put pen to paper.

Last season Welbeck really began to make a name for himself, seeing off Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov to become a first team regular beside Wayne Rooney, and in the process earned a call up to Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 England Squad.

It was thought that with Manchester United acquiring Robin Van Persie from Arsenal, Welbeck would be apprehensive about signing a new deal but this hasn’t been the case and the club have announced his new 4 year deal this morning.

Sir Alex appears to be delighted with Welbeck signing on, and is excited to see what the future holds for the striker as he told ManUtd.Com:

“Danny has been with the club since he was eight years old and has made fantastic progress in the last couple of years – first out on loan and last year as a regular in the first team.

“He has become an important player at international level as well, as the maturity of his performances at the European Championships showed.

“This year is another important one for him. He has a bright future ahead of him.”

Welbeck himself is just as pleased and added:

“Playing for United is all I’ve ever wanted to do – it’s the club I’ve supported all my life. I can’t wait for the challenge of the new season to play my part in helping the team compete for trophies.

“I’m learning all the time from the best manager in the game and I’m keen for that to continue alongside the world class players in the squad.”
