Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken on Manchester United’s loan strategy, claiming he prefers domestic loans for his youngsters.

United have sent a number of youngsters out on loan already this season with just two going abroad (Gyliano Van Velzen & Luke Giverin to Royal Antwerp) and whilst he isn’t totally opposed to international loans, he prefers to send players to the Premier League/Championship.

There are still a number of players that may be farmed out in order for them to gain experience including Michael Keane, Larnell Cole and Jessie Lingard and it is very likely that they will be going to either Championship or Premier League clubs as it allows Sir Alex to keep a proper eye on his players.

Speaking to ManUtd.Com, Sir Alex spoke on the matter using the example of Kiko Macheda as an example of what can go wrong when a player is sent to another country:

“Very few of our young players go abroad on loan.

“We had Federico Macheda go to Sampdoria and he was only there a week and they sacked the coach. It ended up being a nightmare for him and he never got a game.

“I think it’s better that the ones that go on loan go to the Barclays Premier League or the Championship.

“By doing that, we can have regular contact and see them every week. We get them watched all the time.

“That’s the process by which we work under.”

Macheda has suffered managerial changes on both of his loans first with Sampdoria and more recently at QPR, Joshua King is another player to have suffered out on loan before returning to United and impressing on a domestic loan at Hull.

I don’t get what Ferguson see’s in Macheda to be honest. I will always appreciate his vital last minuet goal against Aston Villa, just like Michael Owen goal against Man City. I would say though that Macheda goal was a long time ago now. Macheda hasn’t progressed or really developed since. He has had two poor loan spells away now. I think we should have sold him. I’m shocked he hasn’t been loaned out to another club, at least in the Championship.
