ConcedingĀ an early goal and missing a penalty couldn’t stop Manchester United from beating Bury, as the holders set about retaining their title.

An early lapse in concentration saw Bury take the lead after two minutes and United blew the chance to draw level after Kiko Macheda was felled in the box but Davide Petrucci saw his spot kick saved by Bury’s keeper.

But United were not to be denied, and after sustained pressure Josh King levelled just before the break. It was the breakthrough United needed and the goals flooded after, coming in 10 minuted increments asĀ Jesse Lingard, Marnick Vermijl and Federico Macheda all added their names to the scoresheet.
