Tom Cleverley has joined Michael Carrick in praising Danny Welbeck, and feels the striker is very much a part of the strength England possess up front.

Welbeck and Cleverley have risen through the ranks at Old Trafford together and are now both are firmly in Sir Alex’s first team plans as well as Roy Hodgson’s England plans.

Having come up together, the two have developed a strong relationship and it shows through their football, linking up for Welbeck’s second and again to create Alex Oxlade Chamberlain’s goal, and both club and country are benefiting.

But it isn’t out of friendship that Cleverley praises Welbeck, instead he sees the striker in possession of all the tools that could see him go on and become a forward of real quality:

“I’ve been at the club since I was 11 and Danny has been there since nine so we’ve built up a relationship, on and off the pitch.

“I feel comfortable playing with him and he’s a good lad as well. He’s got everything to be a top-class striker: his movement, which he’s always working on, his touch, his finishing, pace, power.

‘We’ve got a great strike-force for England and Welbz is part of that.”

I agree Welbeck has bags of potential, but he needs to improve his decision making at times – sometimes he runs with the ball or takes on a shot when there’s better options available by passing it. He needs to have more awareness of where his other players are, as well as where the goal is. But he’s still young and hopefully that will come with experience.
