Evergreen Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been voted amongst the most likeable players in the Premier League, according to a poll run by FootballFanCast.com.
Out of over 2,500 votes, 207 fans (8%) voted the 37 year old veteran as one of their most beloved, proving playing in the latter stages of your career isn’t always as grim and bleak as one would imagine.
Quite often it is the case that older statesmen are parted with, retired or loaned down the football ladder with age, but in the case of Paul Scholes and team mate Ryan Giggs at Old Trafford, they are proving that they can still cut competitively it at the very highest level.
FootballFanCast has been polling 12,000 football fans, picking their brains at what makes a footballer favourable or unfavourable, aiming to reveal a set of respected characteristics amongst supporters.
The set of five individual polls raised by FootballFanCast are hoped to provide a complete profile of modern footballers.
Initially retiring from the game following the conclusion of the 2010/11 campaign, the pintsize midfielder surprised everyone when he appeared from the bench once more for an FA Cup tie against cross-town rivals Manchester City in January 2012, signalling an unlikely comeback.
Citing the fact he missed playing the game, to this day Scholes remains a staple part of the United squad and is arguably playing some of the best football of his career being deployed in a deep-lying playmaking role.
Meanwhile, Manchester United team mate Nani ranked as the player with the fourth biggest ego in the Premier League with 101 votes (6%) out of over 1,800 entries.
