Despite the result, Manchester United’s Phil Jones is delighted to be back playing after making his first appearance of the season against Galatasaray last night.

Jones was already suffering with a back injury when he underwent surgery on a torn meniscus in his knee back in September.

Whilst it was said he would be out for 6-8 weeks, he was out for slightly longer but the 20 year old hopes to have put his injury problems behind him now and is looking forward to picking up where he left off after an impressive debut season at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Sky Sports after last night’s game, Jones said:

“I’m knackered to be honest.

“It wasn’t the best of pitches to play on either. It was quite heavy on the legs but I’m delighted to get through 90 minutes. I’m buzzing about that. It’s been difficult. I’ve had my downs. I picked up a few niggles and had surgery on my knee so I’ve had a pretty wretched four or five months.

“I’ve been in the gym every day and it’s not easy. I had to concentrate on getting myself fit and worked quite hard to get to where I am now so I’m just delighted to be back. I’ll feel stiff on Wednesday but everything is fine.

“Hopefully I can push on now, get back in the team and prove why I should be here.”

I was delighted with his performance in such a tough fixture. Considering the length of time he has been out he did very well. It was also promising because he played at centre back, which is the position I want to see him playing all the time. I still remember his performance against Man Utd for Blackburn in 2011 and he was terrific. It must have played a huge role in us signing him.

I guess, it comes down to 46721 simple choice!
