United will need all of their strikers firingSir Alex Ferguson feels that all four of his strikers will need to contribute if Manchester United are to pick up silverware this season.

Sir Alex’s striking options this season have been likened to 1999 when he saw his side sweep to an unprecedented treble, winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and the European Cup. This season he has swapped Andy Cole, Dwight York, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sherringham for Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck but feels, like in 1999, all 4 will have to chip in.

Van Persie has 15 goals so far, Rooney 8, Hernandez 9 and Welbeck 1 as United sit atop of the Premier League table, 6 points clear of rivals Man City, and in the draw for the knockout stages of the Champions League and Sir Alex is hoping his current crop can emulate those that went before them not only in terms of goalscoring but attitude as he told Yahoo Sport in an exclusive interview:

“The comparison is the numbers, having four strikers is a definite advantage.

“The four we had in 99’, Yorke, Cole, Solskjaer and Sheringham were fantastic. They never really complained about being left out as long as felt they were making a contribution and that year we won the treble which made them easier to manage.

“Hopefully that will apply itself again because if we are winning they will all need to contribute – there is no question about that.”
