Sir Alex & Pep Guardiola

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he met with Pep Guardiola recently, and whilst praising his potential replacement, claims the Spaniard told him he isn’t ready to get back into football yet.

Guardiola bested Sir Alex twice in Champions League finals in his spell as Barcelona manager, creating a side considered the best to have ever played the game.

After stepping down from his post as manager at the end of last season, Guardiola has been linked with a number of clubs including Chelsea and Man City as well as Manchester United but upon meeting with Sir Alex in America, Guardiola told him that he isn’t quite ready to get back into football yet.

Speaking to Yahoo Sport Sir Alex recounted the encounter speaking very highly of his former adversary:

“I spoke to Pep a little while ago and he said that he has no interest in getting back into management at the moment. His record is fantastic; the trophies he won at Barcelona were quite exceptional and that is his CV, he wins trophies.”

Asked about the way Pep crafted his incarnation of Barcelona, Sir Alex added:

“Barcelona have always had that style and played attractive football. He increased that by putting a new work ethic into the players in terms of their work rate. They work extremely hard to get the ball back and if you combine that with their possession it makes a fantastic team.”
