Sir Alex Ferguson PRESSER

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Jonny Evans, along with Ashley Young will miss this Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Fulham.

Evans has been struggling with a hamstring injury since the FA Cup tie against West Ham earlier this month and missed every game since. It was thought he would be back to face Tottenham last week but the injury is taking longer than expected to clear up whilst Ashley Young is undertaking light training after picking up a hamstring injury against Liverpool:

“Jonny Evans and Ashley Young are still not 100 per cent. Jonny is just taking a bit longer than we thought. But he did a bit of training [in Qatar]. Not a lot, but he is on the way back.

“The bonus for us, of course, is that Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are both back. So we’re not so bad in that department.

“Ashley Young is not far away. He trained a bit in Qatar. Not a lot, but at least he is on the road back and he has always been an important player for us.”

With Fulham coming to town for an FA Cup 4th round tie, Sir Alex took time to praise former United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian departed for Craven Cottage earlier this season after 4 years at Old Trafford and is now enjoying a fruitful spell with the London club:

“Berbatov is Fulham’s best player. I don’t think he was a failure here. He was a good player. At his age it’s not easy to be not playing when I have lots of choices. He wanted first-team football and it was the right thing to do. I think he’s doing well there.”
