David De Gea wasn't at fault for the draw with Tottenham

Despite the British press’ best attempts to knock his confidence, Manchester United goal keeper David De Gea is in high spirits.

The young Spaniard has often been the focus of negative attention from the media, yet despite this he has continued to flourish at Old Trafford.

He has now cemented his place as Manchester United’s number 1 after having to battle for his place with Anders Lindegaard, and with his first title in sight the keeper is feeling good as he told Inside United:

“I’m feeling well, in good shape and I’m at ease on the pitch. I’ve played a lot of matches but I get plenty of rest at home and I eat well – it’s important to look after myself.

“I’m more confident and feel I’m playing consistently because I’ve had a prolonged run in the team. But training well and having a good mental attitude brings its rewards. Everything you put in, you get out. That is what you’re seeing now – I’m very happy with how I’m playing.”

A game with Man City on Monday beckons but De Gea is taking it in his stride and looking at the game at another opportunity to pick up 3 points and maintain the high standards the team have set this season:

“I’d love to win the league this season but so does everyone else in the team.

“We’re all focused on getting three points from every game – that is what will take us to our objective. We appreciate where we are in the league and we want to finish it.”
