Nick Powell scores against Wigan

Ryan Giggs has told Manchester United’s latest group of youngsters to take their chances when they are presented.

With 3 games spare Sir Alex Ferguson has the luxury of being able to promote players from the u21 side if he wishes, with Belgian talent Adnan Januzaj in particular expected to make his competitive debut before the season ends.

Giggs shone when the spotlight was placed on him at a young age and he is urging those coming up to do the same, pointing to Nick Powell as an example:

“I have seen so many young players over the years have a chance and not really take it.

“Others think ‘this is my chance I am going to make sure the manager takes notice’ and they perform like they have been doing in the youth team or the reserves.

“Nick Powell did it earlier this season. He came on against Wigan and scored. That is what young players have to do.”

It is unlikely that Sir Alex will throw these players in at the deep end in the weekend’s game with Chelsea, but with a home game against Swansea to come, that may be the perfect time for some of these future first teams to wet their toes so to speak.
