Reports of a Wayne Rooney move to French champions PSG have picked up this evening after French paper L’Equipe claimed the club have entered into direct talks with the England international.

PSG were the first team to be linked with the striker back in March following his omission from United team against Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League knockout phase.

PSG’s owners spoke flatteringly of Rooney but distanced themselves for a move for him but since then a number of PSG players have spoken warmly of him, inviting him to join the Paris project.

With news breaking at the end of the season that Rooney was indeed looking for a move away from Old Trafford, a number of clubs have been touted as Rooney’s destination but if L’Equipe’s report is to be believed Rooney could be heading to Paris.

The report claims that PSG have begun speaking directly to Rooney, without agreeing terms with Manchester United, looking to bring him in to partner, rather than replace, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The report also states he is the preferred option ahead of Napoli’s Edison Cavani.

Yesterday The Daily Mirror claimed that Rooney is denying handing in a transfer request, so this further muddies the waters in regards to Wayne Rooney and his future at Old Trafford, or possible lack of.
