Xavi has urged Thiago to remain patient

Barcelona’s Xavi has told Thiago Alcantara to remain patient after it emerged he was considering leaving the Nou Camp due to lack of first team chances.

Thiago is available for a bargain £15m having failed to play in 60% of Barcelona’s games this season, and earlier this week Graham Hunter told talkSPORT that the Spaniard is attracting attention from Manchester United yet again and with a £15m price tag United may be ready to snap him up.

But Xavi is urging his team mate not to be too hasty.

Xavi found himself in a similar position back in 1999 when he had Pep Guardiola blocking his path into the first team. Moves to both Manchester United and AC Milan were touted, a contract with the Italian club was even drawn up, but the midfielder chose to bide his time and looking back the decision paid off.

And now Xavi is advising Thiago to do the same:

“I’d advise Thiago to stay patient because he’s a player who is bound to be a success at Barca.

“I think he is an extraordinary player. Thiago is not just a player for the future, but he is someone who can make an impact right now as well.”

Thiago’s father Marzinho had stated earlier in the season that his son had grown tired of waiting for his chance to come, so he has a big decision to make this summer in regards to where his future lays.
