David Moyes with Steve Round

It appears that Mike Phelan and Eric Steele won’t be the only people leaving Old Trafford, as various outlets are reporting that Rene Meulensteen has also left the club.

It was announced last week that Steele and Phelan would not be joining David Moyes’ backroom staff, but no decision was relayed in regards to Meulensteen thus many believed the advocate of the Coerver system, would be staying.

But on Monday rumours began to surface that the Dutch man would also be leaving, possibly to take up a role at FC Twente, and tonight a number of papers have begun to run with the story, as well as shed more light on the staff Moyes will be bringing in.

The Guardian claim that Meulensteen was offered another role at the club, having been asked to relinquish his first team coach position, but turned it down. Moyes will now bring Phil Neville, Steve Round, Chris Woods and Robbie Cooke from Everton to fill in the vacant positions at Old Trafford with Neville assuming Meulensteen’s coaching role, Round taking over from Phelan as assistant manager, Chris Woods becoming the new goalkeeping coach and  Robbie Cooke assuming Martin Ferguson’s role as chief scout.

Many had believed that Moyes’ appointment would guarantee stability but he has immediately gone about making changes to demonstrate that this in fact now his team and it will be run how he sees fit. Fans may well be dismayed with the departure of Meulensteen given the work he has done at the club and the role he has played in help develop young talent, most notably Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley, but Moyes can only really be judged on how well he has done if he has conditions exactly how he likes including staff.

As previously noted Sir Alex is said to be in an advisory role so if this is the case, Moyes will have received council before deciding to pull the trigger on these changes.

Exciting times lie ahead for Manchester United.

Massive mistake and if Phil Neville come in it will be even worse. Fergie have a word, we cannot afford to lose this fella.

What does Phil Neville know??? I mean, if he was planning to bring someone with vast experience or something, Neville has never coached. He is a great leader but he has never coached, its a big difference. Isn’t Tony Adams somewhere in Russia now.
