United have enquired about Jovetic

Having been rebuffed in his attempts to sign Cesc Fabregas, it appears David Moyes is still in the market for a big name and has now turned his attention to Serie A.

A big signing from Moyes will go some way to smoothing the transition from Sir Alex Ferguson’s management to his and a number of names have been mentioned, but this evening Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Tancredi Palmeri has revealed Manchester United have enquired about the availability of Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic.

Palmeri tweeted:

Jovetic was thought to have been a target of Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City but the Italian paper believes it is United that have made the move for the player.

Fiorentina have dug their heels in though and differing reports show their reluctance to sell the star man. Yesterday initial reports claimed that the Viola would accept nothing less than £25m but as the day wore on this changed to Jovetic not being available at all with sporting director Daniele Prade telling Lega-Calcio:

“We have been clear about Jovetic. He is not on the market.

“There is a word given to the boy by the president: at the end of the season they would talk together, but those are the conditions, otherwise we keep him happy.”
