One half of one of Manchester United’s greatest defensive duos feels for Phil Jones, as the youngster struggles to find a settled position at Manchester United.
Gary Pallister was a staple in defence for United beside Steve Bruce during the early to mid 90s. His position in the team was rarely in doubt, but with Jones unable to nail down a position, he has had to make do with filling in at various positions.
Jones insists that he is a center back but has appeared for both club and country at center back, right back as well as in midfield. Jones faces the same problem as John O’Shea and Phil Neville before him who were also used in various capacities due to their versatility and Gary Pallister believes Jones’ versatility is working against him as he tries to find and master his true position, but feels it is something he has to deal with to play at Old Trafford.
Speaking to ManUtd.Com, Pallister said of the 21 year old:
“Phil Jones has played in midfield and right-back and you can feel sorry for Phil in that respect.
“It’s not very conducive to finding your best form if you’re getting put in all these positions. I certainly wouldn’t want to have played at right-back and midfield when I was playing centre-back as you find your rhythm playing week in and week out.
‘But maybe it’s something he’s got to contend with.”
I don’t see Jones’ versatility as a problem. He should be proud of being able to help out his club and country in any of those 3 positions. He is a player that plays with his heart, whichever position he is given. The media really should stop all this talk about about positional problems cos they only end up messing his mind up.

Fans should asks moyes why he doesn’t played kagawa in central midfield position when jones played in defence.
Dortmund manager said that united is ruin the talent of kagawa by playing him in left winger. He is a central midfielder and the things which he can do in that position nobody can do. After listening to that i also agree. And united is searching a central midfielder for so many year. He played a defender like jones there and left winger veteran giggs there so why they don’t played kagawa there. We all know it well that kagawa shined more in central so why moyes doesn’t played him as central midfielder why why why….
