Manchester United could be set for another summer of frustration, after The Sunday Times reported that Southampton rejected the club’s £27m bid for teenage left back Luke Shaw.

Shaw is believed to have told Southampton bosses that he wants to leave for Old Trafford on the final day of the season, oblivious to the news that United made their move for the England international just hours before.

Many news outlets claimed that Southampton were holding up the deal, hoping to have a new manager in place before making any decision. But The Times claim United are no closer to signing Shaw after rumours that the two sides had agreed a deal were false.

United had hoped to complete a deal prior to the World Cup, but will now have to make do with any potential deal being completed after the tournament. This leaves United in a dangerous position as a number of other clubs are thought to be interested in Shaw too.

You missed a bit out .you meant to say greedy MEGARICH Southampton. Obviously greedy Liverpool really struggled last season having the really unsettled Suarez still on their books. And so did Everton with Leighton Baines. Seems like the only unsettled player who isn’t producing is fat boy Rooney (£300 k per week, you’ve really gotta be mugs to pay that). Wake up. You are now an ordinary side full of ageing players and a few younger ones who aren’t good enough. (Wellbeck, Cleverley etc). Get used to mediocrity. The days of Saints being pushed around are well and truly over.

Southampton is the best place for him. Will far surpass anyone on the United books in time. As for the mail’s poisonous media campaign against the Saints, they should be sued.
