Garay

Manchester United have missed out on the signing of Ezequiel Garay after the Argentine center back joined Zenit St Petersburg for a paltry €15m.

The defender has long been linked with a big money move to Old Trafford but it failed to materialise.

Earlier this month Benfica center back Lisandro Lopez confirmed that he was signed as a replacement for Garay last summer, adding credence to the story that the defender was meant to join United.

But this summer United’s interest has been tentative at best, and now the 27 year old has completed a move to the Russain club according to a statement released by the Portuguese club.

Given United’s defence position, with both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic leaving, Garay at that price could have been worth a punt especially given the price being quoted for reported target Thomas Vermaelen.
