Well Man City’s ‘scouting network’ have snapped up another star as Valencia’s David Silva has agreed a move to Eastlands on a 4 year deal (subject to passing a medical), for a fee thought to be in the region of £25m.

Silva, who could be heard waxing lyrical about his wishes to join United a couple of weeks ago, must have got his clubs mixed up as the latest quotes from the Spainiard are,

“Firstly I would like to thank Valencia as a club and all of their loyal fans, and my team mates there and staff. I have enjoyed six years at Valencia, they discovered me as a footballer and they will always be a special club for me.

The time is right for me to seek a new challenge, and I am thrilled about playing in England with Manchester City. I believe the Premier League is one of the best competitions in the world and I want to bring success to City and win trophies for them.

With City in the driving seat to sign Yaya Toure too, this season’s Manchester derbies could actually top last season’s in terms of excitement.

More on this story as it breaks…

Bluesky, still stalking a United site?
I won’t pretend Rooney had a great tournament, but let’s also not pretend he was given real service by the midfield. Speaking of the midfield, wasn’t that an area of City’s contribution (if you’d call it that) to England? Barry shoulders a lot more blame considering the ball generally had to go through him. Terrible pace, distribution and man-marking. I heard Ozil already sent a thank-you gift basket to Barry for allow him to roam the midfield as he pleased, and extra thanks for the give away and laughable effort to track back on Germany’s fourth goal.

Please, Rooney’s contributions to United are irrefutable and consistent over his entire history. I’m sure his career will be fine in spite of 4 subpar games with an inadequate midfield.

I’ll grant that you have an exceptional player in Tevez, but his discontent is well documented, even from his own lips. If you think Adebayor, Robinho and Santa Cruz have performed well for your club than you are in a small minority even amongst City fans.

This article pretty sums up what United are about and City will never be:

I heard different Jonathan! My sources tell me Barry got Ozil’s name tattooed at the bottom of his back so he can see it every time he does him. Ozil had his ass at will during that game!

I have to say this is an impressive signing. Man City are really building a strong team with quality players. Silva is a class player and one I would have loved to have seen at Man Utd. It looks like Yaya Toure will be arriving at Man City and probably a couple more. They will be challenging for the title next season. On paper they have a team as strong as ours, but with a better midfield if I’m honest. We have a better defence at the moment. Ferguson has said he hasn’t gone for players because he see’s no value. We’ve just seen a quality player like Silva move for £25-29 million, which in the current market is a great price. He was the kind of creative midfield player the fans were crying out for. It proof to me that Ferguson is just protecting the Glazers now. We do not have the money to compete at the top end of the market anymore. I think we will continue to buy unknown players like Diouf, Obertan and Hernandez for cheap and hope one turns out like Ronaldo.

    arsed with a capital A.

all the bitters saying we’re skint. you wait magoos. we’ve got a brazilian lined up that’ll wipe the smiles off your faces – and i aint talking fabiano. you seem to forget we’ve got £90m trousered for players ya mugs.

now get on with your sad lives over on bluemong or whatever its called and leave the grown ups to talk.

  6. Manchester Will be Blue says:

Man Utd have been spending over their means for years – hence the debt, so it not a fair argument against City fans.

The power will definately turn this season in Manchester. Especially if Rooney keeps his summer form up, which was a joke. Giggs another year older, same with Scholes both showed their value last season.

Red Nose will be off soon and the decline at Old Trashford will continue as the traiing ground is sold off…. etc.

Man Utd in a Blue shadow is the prediction, Fungus face will walk at the end of the season, after not being able to qualify for the Champions League.

Tom, I see what you’re saying about City and I would be lying if I weren’t disappointed at Silva’s signing.

There’s no doubt that he’s a great signing for their club, but I still question the club’s ability to rise because of their impatience and evident lack of loyalty in their culture.
Last year alone they fired a manager and the new one is already rumoured to be on shaky ground. They sold their captain and brought in Lescott on very suspect circumstances. They are already seemingly trying to rid themselves of their best academy players (Ireland, Richards, Onuoha), which communicates the academy is for show only. Add to the fact that they have about 5 players who were only purchased in the last year or so already possibly being pushed out the door.

In Silva, they got a great player who actally fulfills a positional need, but why would they be looking for Yaya Toure when they already have: Barry, Viera, Kompany and DeJong as defensive/holding midfielders? Similarily, they are always rumoured to be seeking more forwards eventhough they have many already.

Healthy competition is good within the team, but I think the club are very possibly instilling paranoia of being viewed as a disposable comodity and rampant individualism rather than teamwork.

If Robinho as one of the world’s most talented forwards was more excited to play outside of Europe in his prime than be back with this supposedly “world class” club, than what is it saying to be like on that team?

Totally agree Jonathan, Man City do like to shot themselves in the foot. The managerial merry go round will effect them. There is an impatience at the club to rise straight away. If Mancini has a bad start then he will be sacked and new guy will want his won players.

They do seem to care little about there youth players like Richards and Ireland. Its become more about how much can we spend. As for Silva I rate the guy highly and could see him doing well for Man Utd, but he might struggle at Man City. There will be alot of pressure on him at Man City.

But if they can avoid causing there own problem then they will have a chance next season.
