I used to enjoy checking in on Zoran Tosic at Koln.

Asking a pal in Germany as well as scraping together info on the net about his performances was all good and well but when he was sold off to CSKA Moscow somehow he fell from my thoughts.

There were many who had wanted the diminutive Serbian to at least be given a try before he was sold off and he himself accused Sir Alex of not giving him a try.

This season we have looked at Adem Ljajic and what he was getting up to at Fiorentina so here is a little run down of Tosic.

Since moving to Moscow in June the winger has scored 6 times in 23 appearances as well as laying on 7 assists for team mates. He scored his first in August against Anzhi Makhachkala as well as setting up one and then days later scored a brace against Anorthosis in the Europa League.

In the Europa League he is amongst a batch of players like Guti and Del Piero who have 3 assists to their names so he isn’t doing too badly at all eh?

His last goal came in December in a 5-1 drubbing of Lausanne Sports where he used his pace to burst past 2 defenders before finishing cutely, look a very interesting player even if he didn’t make it here.

As bad as it sounds, I’m glad he’s doing well but not to the extent that he’s causing regret for our club. Lijac on the other hand seems to already be showing star qualities in a more pretigious league and at a younger age. In any case, best of luck to him…to an extent.

He is as advertised set pieces can cross and score only in this country is size such an issue

In any case he much better than Obertan. And if Jonathan think in one hand that the quality of the league (in Russia, where Tosic is playing now) is not good enough, in other hand there is 4 Russian clubs in a playoff of Europe League.

I wasn’t hoping to disrespect the Russian league, as it is fairly strong and produces some global stars. However, it is a level (or two) below a few others in Europe. Since that is the case, I think a player would need to show thrilling statistics (like Krasic had) in the Russian league to prove they are world class. As it stands, Tosic’s statistics show he is a strong player, but not world class. However, he is still relatively young and has time to prove me wrong.

I don’t think it was a height issue. According to wikipedia, he is only half an inch shorter than Nani. We’ll probably need another year or two to see whether or not Fergie made the correct choice.

Vidic was in Russia before ManUtd…

@roman.. how do you know hes better than obertan? ronaldo didnt look great at the start of his career either, guessing you were one of those who wrote him off too?

was wierd how tosic didnt get more chances.. can only think it was because fergie thought he was too small. was similar story with rossi, loads of talent and doing well for villarreal.

united scouts were spotted at a villarreal game recently, apparently watching nilmar. reckon its more likely fergie was checking out rossi as the first choice buyback clause runs out in few weeks

Maybe Tosic was transferred too early as he played ok for the reserves and being left footed and able to take free kicks might have got 1st team football.. especially right now as the team at Birmingham lacked width..and Roo not very good at being a left winger. Thanks for the Tosic news..happy new year to all! Cheshian

Zoran is a very good player with lots of potential. Sometimes I do not understand why such players are not given the deserved chances and others are kept in the squad. Surely Zoran is far better than O`Shea and Gibson…Technically , to say the least. some say he was shipped out because of his short stature…well Maradona was of the same built and was the world`s greatest of his era.

jesmonta- that’s my point exactly hell u don’t even have to go back as far as maradona just look at messi. The only reason i see Sir Alex still keeping oshea and gibson in the team is for team chemistry, because they will be ok with being squad players, but i am getting worried that this is a trend of not giving a chance more technical gifted players as opposed to keeping players in the squad like gibson and oshea. What really frustrates me is seeing Sir Alex not pick up the option on ljajic saying that we are strong in that position when that is obviously our weakest area, and to compound things when I watch fiorentina in the Italian league an see him looking that good in such a short period of time and then a pic of the like’s of gibson pops up in my head I wanna jump off a bridge

another mistake is not giving magnus eikrem the chance he deserved….
