According to The Daily Mirror Sir Alex is set to wield the axe this summer with 6 faces set to leave or retire.

Sir Alex was quoted as saying:

“Sometimes when a player grows old, you have to recognise it and they have to move on. We have to maintain a level of success at the top end of the game. We can’t afford bad years or breaking-in years. We have had periods like that, but we don’t want it and we need to be successful all the time.”

Thus the paper is reporting that whether we win the title or not the squad will face a big overhaul in order to keep things fresh.

With the likes of Edwin Van Der Sar and Gary Neville looking at retirement whilst Tomasz Kuszczak, Wes Brown, Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen all set to be shown the door a new look Manchester United may be lining up us next season.

Sir Alex is no mug though, he is well aware of the problems Chelsea have faced this season after they tried something similar at the start of this season so he already has a plan in place to fill in the voids created with the use of players like Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley who are impressing on loan as well as Darron Gibson and Chris Smalling who are carving out careers for themselves at Old Trafford.

As well as these youngsters it is thought Sir Alex plans to implement some players from the reserves and academy to bolster the squad meaning much touted youngsters like Paul Pogba may well get some shine.

The move is one that may have been on the cards and makes sense when looking at it logically but having seen what has happened to Chelsea with their lack or reinforcement one must worry.

Gibson should go. Never liked him. All he has is a shot. Cant pass, cant run, cant tackle?

  2. Chudi Onwuazor says:

He looked neat the other night, not the best at what he does but he can grow into a United player (hopefully!)

plizz..bring sanchez in..he is much beter than valencia..skillful,powerfull..he is our new ronaldo

Valencia and Sanchez play in the same position but are 2 very different players! Valencia should have a place in every United fans heart, he has been nothing short of immense since he took over that right wing.

Paul Pogba, Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Joshua King…. I can go on coz basically the whole reserve and even some academy players, it’s all brilliant! They are magnificent prospects!

    • Yosh says:

They aren’t ready yet – except maybe Eikrem, not to forget Ravel Morrison and Ajose. They will be brill in a couple more seasons.

Blackburn fan here, I come in peace. We would happily take Mame Biram, Wes Brown and Micheal Owen off of your hands. Thank you very much. 🙂

Michael Owen is a tough one. He is still a class player but needs some game time under his belt to regain form.

By and large I agree with most of them, but not about Brown. He’s not in my ideal first team, but he’s versatile and a very good option for a squad player. Rafael’s certainly taken the RB spot, but with this likely being Neville’s last year I think Brown will see a bit more action than he’s getting this year. We’ve also been more fortunate with injuries this year, but we need to be prepared.

I’m torn on Kuszczak. He’s been given so little chances that it’s hard to say whether he’s done anything right or wrong.

I completely agree about Wes Brown. He’s been a faithful squad player who’s filled in, sometimes magnificently, whenever United has had injuries. I dare say, he’s certainly looked the better player than the Gary Neville of late. If Sir Alex is letting him go though, I believe it must be something other than his age or ability in question. Which would be very sad as I’ve always thought of Brown as a thru-&-thru United player. No chance of making up at all, Sir Alex? 🙁

is magnus eikrem still a man united player? or has he left?

    • Yosh says:

He still with us, I really hope he doesn’t leave. I think he will get some games next season, providing Scholes retires.
