Sunday sees United take on Liverpool in the FA Cup 3rd round.

After last year’s horror show against Leeds Sir Alex has promised to go with a strong team and given that we are facing Liverpool it is an absolute must. Liverpool have been in dire form of late with manager Roy Hodgson’s job hanging by the thinnest of threads so we could be the final nail in his coffin but that being said, as we saw with Leeds, derby games have the propensity to deviate from the script a little too often thus expect anything to happen.

We’ve had some special games with Liverpool in recent times, who can forget smashing them 3-0 in 07/08? Or the shame of getting batterer 4-1 at Old Trafford or more recently the Berb with that breath taking hat trick?

Whilst these games are all league encounters, our cup fixtures have been just as eventful, add to that the last four times we’ve met in the cup (1985, 1999, 2006 and obviously the 1996 final), the winners have gone on to win trophy, I thought I would have a look back at the last two of our meetings!
