His reputation at Old Trafford grows daily and a goal today against Southampton will do him no harm.

After Southampton took a lead late in the first half through Richard Chaplow United neededto pull their finger out and get down to business. The introduction of Giggs and Nani helped and United, who had looked poor in the first half, saw themselves into the fifth round with goals from Michael Owen and Javier Hernandez.

Michael Owen’s header saw United back into the game following a right wing cross from Obertan (by way of a Southampton player’s arm). This was all well and good but a replay isn’t favourable as we look to compete on numerous fronts this season. Enter Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican striker ran onto Ryan Giggs’ ball and whilst off balance swept the ball past the Soton keeper to hand us the win.
