It’s been a whirlwind year for Danny Welbeck.

After looking the part on last summer’s US tour he was sent on loan to Sunderland where he won plaudits for the part he played in Steve Bruce’s men’s season.

An England debut later and he is back at Old Trafford with the promise of first team football from Sir Alex and he is looking to take full advantage of any opportunity thrown his way, using the example of a United team mate,

“My main aim is to get games with United now.

“What Javier (Hernandez) did shows you that if you’re in form, the manager plays you – and he is always going to give youth a chance as well.

“Javier was not starting most of the games at the start of the season but he was in the side later and was on top form.

“We have got good competition among the strikers at United so you have just got to go out there and show what you can do.

“I think I can break through if I get my opportunity and I’m going to give it the best shot I can.”

Positions up front will be hard to come by and we may see Welbeck used in wider positions but I’m all for him staying at Old Trafford, I’m a fan and feel there is something about him that if nurtured he can go on to big things here.

Welbeck will be a good addition to our squad this season. He gives us options upfront and wide, but his style is different to what we have. Also you can tell he is getting stronger. I hope he learns from Owen, but ultimately goes ahead of him in the pecking order. I think his versatility will see Obertan and Diouf sold, and Macheda loaned out.

I’m excited by Welbeck potential, but in truth I’m really excited about all our young players. We have a great group in De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Rafeal, Fabio, Evans, Cleverley, Anderson, Hernandez, Welbeck and even Pogba. Also Nani, Young and Rooney are at great ages. The squad is strong and has a lot of potential to get better.

We have a gaping hole in the centre of midfield, which I hope will be solved with a 35 million euro bid for Wesley Sneijder. If we can get him then I think our squad would be in great shape. It would have a good balance of youth and players at there peak like Vidic, Evra, Ferdinand, Fletcher, Carrick, Valencia, Park, Berbatov and hopefully Sneijder.

The difference between the correct word and the almost proper word is far more than just a fine line! it’s like the difference between a lightning bug and the lightning!
