Manchester United have suffered an injury blow as Chris Smalling has been ruled out with a cracked bone in his foot.

According to The Daily Mail Smalling, 21, cracked a bone in his foot against Otelul Galati earlier this month and further exacerbated the injury against Man City last Sunday.

The report states he will be out for 3 weeks meaning he will miss miss games against Everton, Otelul Galati, Sunderland, Swansea and possibly Benfica and Newcastle.

A big blow because he has stepped up his game this season. The problem is we can’t get a settled back four anymore, and I would consider Smalling to be part of our best back four now. However its only 3 weeks and we can consider that lucky. It could have been 3 months.

Last week was a disaster but I’m not sure we can afford to throw Ferdinand away or make him a scape goat for the problems. The real issue is the midfield, which was terrible in terms of attacking, but also defensively. Anderson and Fletcher couldn’t win on tackle. I’m expecting Park, Carrick and Cleverley to play in midfield against Everton. Ferdinand should play alongside Vidic, with Evra left back and Jones at right back.
