With Manchester United’s interest in James Rodriguez said to be increasing, the Porto player is set for new talks with his club.

Last week with talk of Nani being on his way out of Old Trafford, there were reports that the Columbian attacker was being looked at as an alternative to to the Portuguese winger. And it seems United’s apparent renewed interest is said to have concerned Porto.

Portuguese press have reported that United have already had an approach turned down and as Rodriguez has a £40m buyout clause in a contract he signed last year, they intend to get every penny of it if they do in fact sell the starlet.

Whilst Silvio Sandri, Rodriguez’s representative, hasn’t confirmed that there has been a move for his client he did confirm in O Jogo that there would be talks between him and his club, leading one to believe that there has been some sort of development (although this equally involve a club that isn’t Manchester United):

“Really there does not exist any big news about this but it is a subject we need to analyse.

“In a couple of weeks I will fly to Portugal and I expect to have a meeting with the Porto directors to discuss the situation.

“I cannot offer more details because it is a very complex subject.”

I think firstly Man Utd must be focusing on trying to beat Real Madrid to the signing of Luka Modric. I have a bad feeling that we will see him signing for Real Madrid next week.

James Rodriguez is a very good talent and someone we should try and sign. The problem is that he still isn’t the player that we need really in the middle of park. Ideally we would sign both Modric and Rodriguez, but lately it doesn’t always work out well in the market for us. We could just as easily end up with neither players.

I dream that David Gill can pull the rabbit out of the hat and get Modric and Rodriguez to sign for Man Utd next week. I think if that could pull of such a sensational double deal, then we would be selling both Nani and Anderson. I could see Anderson going back to Porto in any deal for Rodriguez. I could then see Nani going to either Juventus or Inter Milan.

Luka Modric will sign for Real Madrid. Its getting frustrating now for Man Utd fans because clearly we are not getting big names anymore. Hazard was a player I wanted as well, but he choose Chelsea. I was annoyed but to be honest I wanted Modric more. I always thought we should sign Kagawa, so the need for a player like Modric was greater. I think seeing him sign for Real Madrid will hurt more.

I would like to see James Rodriguez sign for Man Utd, but he isn’t something we really need at the moment. We have Valencia, Young and Nani as wingers. A player like Modric was the kind of player that the first 11 needs now.

Rodriguez is a young player with great potential. If Nani was to move then he is definitely someone we should be looking to sign.

This boy looks quality and we should try and get a deal done this summer. He has great ability and could be a star at Old Trafford. It would make sense if Nani is leaving for Italy. We have Valencia and Young as the first choice wingers. This would allow Rodriguez a season to adapt and learn without pressure. We would also have Park as extra experience in the wide area’s.

Its looks like Modric is going Madrid and we lost another transfer battle. We need a another centre midfield along with Carrick, Scholes and Cleverley. I think most fans wanted Modric, but we can’t compete with Real Madrid anymore for players. I can’t think of too many players of his quality that we can go for now.
