The news of Manchester United agreeing terms with Arsenal to sign Robin Van Persie could not have come at a better time.

With a few days to the start of the new season, all that is left is for last season’s Premier League top scorer to agree personal terms and pass a medical test.

Both fans and players alike are excited about the Dutch striker’s imminent arrival, with Michael Carrick expressing his delight with the new acquisition:

“He had a terrific season [with Arsenal] and he will further strengthen our squad. It’s a great boost going into the new season.

“He’s a world-class player and we’ve always been about bringing in players of that ability.

“Can it make the difference between second and first? There wasn’t much difference so hopefully we can go that step further!”

“If it goes through, it will be brilliant, but the club has always had strength in depth and it is about the squad and not the 11 on the pitch.”
