With a plethora of striking talent ahead of him, Kiko Macheda is set to depart from Old Trafford this January according to his agent.

Macheda has made just 1 first team appearance this season, a brief cameo is Manchester United’s 5-4 defeat to Chelsea in the Capital One Cup. So with chances looking scarce, Giovanni Bia has claimed that the young Italian may have to look elsewhere to further his career.

“At this time Federico is not finding space (in the first team), and so it is clear that in January he will leave.

“But I don’t think he’ll be back again in Italy because usually in January clubs are looking for players that are already ready, unless there are teams with a quiet standing which want to do long-term projects with him.”

Following his explosive debut, scoring a last gasp winner against Aston Villa in 2009, Macheda has failed to live up to his own billing. He has seen the likes of Danny Welbeck surpass him whilst players like Javier Hernandez and Robin Van Persie have joined the club to push him further down the ranks.

Despite a bright season at u21 level with 8 goals, Macheda’s first team options aren’t looking good and with 2 failed loans perhaps a permanent move could be on the cards?

Macheda has the talent but not the application. He made a dramatic introduction to the first team with goals against Villa and Sunderland in the space of two games, but he seems to think that that should be enough to guarantee him a place in the first team. In the reserves he looks like he can’t be bothered most of the time, and he’s hardly set the world on fire when on loan. With Robin Van Persie, Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck already established in the first team he would need to be tearing up trees left right and centre to be in the mix. He should have taken a leaf out of Will Keane’s book. Before his injury Will has worked tirelessly in the reserves, and had he not suffered a serious injury I think he might have got a run out in the League Cup. Macheda just doesn’t have the work ethic to force his way in to the first team.
