Guess Who?

After Celtic’s impressive performances against Barcelona in the Champions League, 2 players have come in for some serious praise.

Fraser Forster’s display in goal, keeping Messi and co at bay on Wednesday night, has earned him rave reviews as well as another call up to the England squad, but as United are sorted in the goalkeeping department it looks like the papers have decided to link us with Victor Wanyama instead.

The man mountain of a central midfielder was tremendous in both games; Andres Iniesta sought him out to swap shirts at the Nou Camp whilst he opened the scoring as Celtic recorded  a famous win at Celtic Park during the week.

So where do United come into this?

Well numerous papers linked us with the Kenyan over the summer, and whilst no move materialised his continued good performances mean the link just won’t die. According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United’s chief scout Martin Ferguson was in attendance to see his performance on Wednesday and was impressed with what he saw.

QPR made a move for Wanyama over the summer but saw their bid beaten away, whilst Man City and Arsenal have also shown interest in self admitted chicken addict.

Although apparently rejecting an improved contract offer, he has said he is happy in Scotland and manager Neil Lennon has said it will cost £25m to prise the player that cost £900k last year away from him. He may be right too considering Wanyama is contracted to The Hoops until 2015!

At 21 Wanyama will fit in with Sir Alex’s transfer policy of signing young talent, and may also help with United’s oft spoken of midfield problem with his robust style. The fact he is able to drop back into defence will also appeal to Sir Alex as versatility amongst his players is key.

Will Sir Alex actually sign a central midfielder? This one may actually have legs!

Did you place a bet on Celtic being the victors over at Ladbrokes? If you didn’t, there is still chance to win big on their brilliant football slot games, like Shoot and Soccer Safari, which are both available to play if you click here.

Celtic fan here. I’d hate to see big Wanyama leave, but to be honest he looks a class apart and I think it would be great to see him plying his trade in the SPL. We sold Ki to Swansea, and he was supposed to be excellent. I think Wanyama is something else again. Yaya Toure sort of player. The boy is class and will only get better. I’d like to see him at a team like United, learning from the legend that is Scholes. Is he worth £25m? Probably not, but any deal should factor in the fact that he is just going to get better and better. £15m with add-ons to come should be more reasonable.

admittedly I’ve not seen much of him at all but I would be very wary of players coming from the SPL. Liam Miller anyone? Granted Jelavic and Naysmith have done well at Everton so it can be done

I am a United fan living in Glasgow. Wanyama is certainly the real deal and would suit us well. Liam Miller’s story has no relevence to this ‘debate’. If I were SAF I’d go and get him.
