Eriksen played starring roles in Ajax’s victory and draw against Manchester City in the Champions League and has long been a target of Europe’s elite.
With the 20 year old’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2014, Ajax Technical Director Marc Overmars has expressed his dismay at the Dane’s reluctance to sign a new deal.
Quoted in Sporten, the former Arsenal player said:
“We would like Christian to sign a new contract with us, but it’s not something he wants. We will see what happens after this year. We speak, of course, with him and his agent, and we’ll see what happens after December.”
Eriksen himself hasn’t confirmed he will be leaving but is quoted as saying he wants to ‘keep his options open’:
“I have not actually said that I will not be (staying), but what I have said to them is that I want to keep my options open… And I must move some time, but when it should happen, I do not know.”
During the summer The Sunday Mirror ran a story claiming that Eriksen sought talks with Ajax over a move to United and claimed United were ready to meet the Dutch side’s £20m valuation. No move materialised, but could this be the start of his potential transfer to Old Trafford?
