With the unveiling of Sir Alex Ferguson’s statue set to take place tomorrow, a who’s who of world football has descended upon Manchester to pay homage to the Manchester United manager.

Sir Alex is to be honoured with a statue in recognition of his 26 years in charge of Manchester United, and it is thought former players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud Van Nistelrooy will be in attendance to salute the Scot.

Another person that may be at the unveiling is a man that has been linked with the job once Sir Alex has called it a day, current Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

There is an enduring respect between Ferguson and Mourinho and the Portuguese manager has been lavishing praise on Ferguson ahead of Friday’s event:

He’s unique.

“If you go back many years, then you will find somebody like him but [it’s amazing] in the modern day at the highest level, where it is really difficult to survive in our job.

“He’s absolutely incredible at what he does and we can’t even imagine when he’ll stop. He’s unbelievable.”
