There has been increased talk of Jose Mourinho taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson when the Scot finally decides to call it day, but one former United manager doesn’t think the current Real Madrid manager will even be able make a dent on Sir Alex’s achievements.

Tommy Docherty doesn’t think the ‘Special One’ will be able to have the kind of impact he has had at other clubs because the figure of Sir Alex looms too large, and his achievements are unlikely to be replicated at Old Trafford or anywhere else.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, ‘The Doc’ dismissed Mourinho stating:

“The next manager will find it impossible to replicate what he’s done.

“The new manager will do his own thing, but to overtake him will be impossible. What he’s done will never be done again.

“The next guy might not get the time because he will be expected to just pick up the reins and carry on the success, when usually you would rather take over a team that is doing badly.

“Even Jose Mourinho would have no chance of being as successful than him. Given the amount of time Sir Alex has been at the club, there is no way that the next manager could match his record.”
